Peter C. Newman: not dead enough

November 19, 2011 By Kathy Shaidle

Hat’s always been a wee bit too tight.

Newman is the worst kind of Canadian semi-“official Jew,” Mr. Anti-Establishment Establishment. Luckily, they’re fading away…

Born in Vienna, Austria, Newman emigrated from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia to Canada in 1940 as a Jewish refugee. His father, Oscar, was a self-made wealthy factory owner. Newman was educated at Upper Canada College, where he was a member of Seaton’s House, and the University of Toronto.  In 1978 he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada and was promoted to the rank of Companion in 1990.

His father is the one who should’ve gotten the Order.

If only Duddy Kravitz had been a real person, and Newman had been fictional. Today’s Canada would be SO awesome…

PS: Dear Great Canadian Documentarians Working On MY Dime:

George Carlin was a Catholic. (And you can have him.)

I know because his religion “jokes” were things any bright Catholic school kid thought up when they were 12. That’s why he never made me laugh. Heard it all before. (Also? “Why do we drive on the parkway and park in a driveway?” JEzuz…)
