5 Feet of Fury

Just a friendly reminder: politicians are not gods

This sort of thing is ridiculous and disgraceful.

It reveals just how desperate Americans are for leadership, but/and also how dangerous such desperation can be.

It is a form of idolatry, an ancient disease that creates division and hysteria in anyone it strikes.

Robert Spencer has been a leader for a long time, in his own way.

Years ago, he stepped up to do something few people had the expertise and courage to do, and hasn’t had a normal life since.

Yet this is how some people repay him. It’s very sad, and very depressing on many levels.

Robert Spencer writes:

I do not understand this unseemly rush to anoint Perry without vetting him. I’ve never seen anything like this: friends have broken with me, I’ve been attacked on hitherto friendly websites, I’ve gotten calls from people I haven’t heard from in years, telling me to lay off Perry, and more — all because I dared to raise some concerns about Rick Perry. Perry may be the greatest thing since microwave popcorn, but I remain concerned about his closeness to Grover Norquist and other matters. And I don’t think it’s illegitimate to ask Perry to address these concerns.
