Talk radio insider Randall Bloomquist about a troubling recent “1st Amendment” story:
Even scarier, a Richmond, Virginia man was recently arrested, fined and given a suspended jail sentence for using a bullhorn to yell at a policeman, “Stop harassing people, we pay your paychecks!” As this article makes clear, the guy seems like a jerk, but he probably would not have been arrested for yelling, “We love the police!” What’s more, we Americans have a fundamental right to be jerks. (…)
The judge in the bullhorn case rejected an early motion to dismiss the charges, saying, “Based on the content of the statement, your client was trying to be a jerk, and create trouble in a situation which had nothing to do with him, in which he had no business.”
