Kill the people: stand up comedy in totalitarian regimes is this week’s legacy media meme for some reason

SHECKY looks at the Atlantic’s story about Cambodian stand up comics and wonders:

Were this kind of situation to exist in America, we wonder: Would you be in jail for cracking wise about the oppressive regime? Or would you be the comedian who flees to Australia, telling jokes about the awful conditions in your native land? Or would you be the comedian with the Lexus?

This seems to be the MSM meme of the week, as Scaramouche notes one story in the Toronto Star and another in the NYT, about comedians in totalitarian countries.

Some of their experiences sound oddly… familiar…

Bahari knew his hulking, perfumed interrogator, whom he nicknamed Rosewater, trolled Facebook, looking for evidence against him. Rosewater and his cohorts mined his interests and his contacts, but they lacked the experience and sophistication to know what their findings meant.

Rosewater tried to understand him but was bewildered by the richness of his life…
