Sign of the apocalypse: Canadian MSM outlet asked me to write something — then printed it

UPDATE: behold the power of the mainstream media!

As of 1:30 PM ET, Canada.com has sent a grand total of… 36 58 readers to this blog, via my link at the bottom of the article.

I guarantee you that my link, and Mark Steyn’s link, to that article has sent at least 20 times that many readers over TO Canada.com.

(As an aside, check out this classic piece of MSM “reporting” just from today.)

Yes, I take a bad picture. Thank you.

Anyway, here’s part of my column on “what should the parties be talking about in the run up to the election?” Not bad for something I wrote in under 30 minutes to get it off my to-do list:

…my challenge to Canadian candidates is: abolish the corrupt, costly state-censorship bureaucratic apparatus we call Human Rights Commissions.

When we encourage citizens to pose as victims with chronically “hurt feelings,” and reward them with thousand-dollar settlements for whining and tattling on each other, the social fabric is torn.

There’s a chill in the Not So Great White North, all right. Watch what you say, comedians. Careful what you publish, publishers. Be “nice,” everybody. Or else.

We Canadians think our culture is superior to the more litigious one in the United States. But are tens of thousands of dollars doled out for “hurt feelings” anything to feel smug about?

Alas, I know, having covered these cases for years, that most of my fellow Canadians – hooked up to a lifelong I.V. drip of political correctness and “do something!” do-gooding — are nodding and answering “yes.”

I’m a bit disappointed that no one has called me a “racist” in the comments yet.

Maybe one of you can do it as a gag and get the party started!

Actually, don’t bother. Upon further scrolling, I already see an extraordinary number of aborted comments that were “deleted by our staff”! So…

Of course the fact that so many of the comments, for and against, have been made by readers who wished to remain “anonymous” says more about the current state of free speech in Canada than anything I wrote at the top.

PS: I have to ask — when did “the parent of an autistic child” become the new “my kid was killed by a drunk driver,” i.e. society’s new all-purpose barroom-bore/ unimpeachable Teflon asshole?
