Today in Holocaust-ianity, the Canadian Jewish Congress actually increases the amount of anti-Semitism in Canada by (here we go again) fetishizing a particular magical 7-figure number over a different — evil! burn it with fire!!! — heretical and just plain wrong 7-figure number.
This system of magical, sacred numerology must never be questioned by mere mortals! If you do so, you will be deported!
(Note: it’s not “fascism” when they do it…)
People at the CJC would be the first to insist that they are the experts on Holocaust historicism, and I’m just a stupid racist shiksa, so I’m assuming they know all about, oh, say, this stuff, retold recently in the Jewish Review of Books:
In the 1970s, Wiesenthal began to refer to “eleven million victims” of the Holocaust, six million Jews and five million non-Jews, but the latter number had no basis in historical reality. (…)
When Israeli historians Yehuda Bauer and Yisrael Gutman challenged Wiesenthal on this point, he admitted that he had invented the figure of eleven million victims in order to stimulate interest in the Holocaust among non-Jews.
He chose five million because it was almost, but not quite, as large as six million. (…)
In recent months, Wiesenthal’s concoction has been further improved upon by a group of rabbis and imams who visited Auschwitz under the aegis of the US State Department. The statement they issued after their visit referred to the “twelve million victims, six million Jews and six million non-Jews.” Now we have parity.
One wonders what’s next. (…)
Well, wonder no more!
Behold the unseemly “my Holocaust was bigger than your Holocaust” pissing match in which the CJC is a key participant.
At least someone else is asking the real, tough questions about the entire Human Rights Mausoleum project, not just desperately trying to cling to a lucrative yet increasingly irrelevant role in the public square — one that, once again, is arguably doing more long term harm to Canadian Jewry than good.
