By the way, anybody who thinks I’m a “racist” obviously didn’t grow up in Hamilton. The OFFENSIVE SONG I’m linking to now — which is INCREDIBLY OFFENSIVE, so you may NOT want to listen to it — is a completely accurate glimpse into the inside the the heads of the Italians I grew up with.
One time, somebody wanted to build a group home or something for the handicapped in a particularly Italian neighborhood there. The residents flipped out. I doubt CityTV still has the footage in their archives, but let me tell you: the residents all came out on the sidewalk and angrily yelled at the reporter that they “didn’t want no retards livin’ next door” — which naturally cracked the rest of us up after we got over being embarrassed because we already had to live near Italians without the buffer of being “retarded” ourselves, which would’ve at least taken the edge off.
