To find out what black people are thinking, check Twitter

February 22, 2011 By Kathy Shaidle

I wonder how long it took the guys at Iconoculture to finally settle on “ribald”:

Black people represent 25% of Twitter users, roughly twice their share of the population in general…

According to Twitter trend tracking sites like Trendistic, notable trend topics, designated with the hashtag (#) symbol, touch on ribald aspects of black life, like #HoodHoe and #UncleTomReporter (…)

The strong microblogging presence of African Americans gives them the opportunity to dominate the conversation. Although some trending topics touch on stereotypical or unsavory topics, others bring awareness and education.
