Once again, Bernie Farber of the Canadian Jewish Congress has commented upon events he didn’t have the nerve to attend in person — and gets his facts wrong.
(Remember that next time he calls someone a “racist”…)
After he mischaracterized Tuesday’s JDL/EDL rally in the Toronto, Meir Weinstein of the JDL issued this open letter to Farber:
AN OPEN LETTER TO THE CANADIAN JEWISH CONGRESS
The JDL hosted an evening with the leader of the English Defence League. The event went on as planned. Everything was peaceful inside the hall. A collection of anti Israel groups gathered outside the Zionist Center to bloc cars from coming to the event. The anti Israel groups came with sticks and swung them at the police. Tragically, one police officer was taken to the hospital with broken ribs. The police then cleared this violent anti Israel gang away. And the JDL worked together with the police to keep the event peaceful. Unfortunately, some of the leaders of the Canadian Jewish Congress made false statements that the JDL contributed to the violence. THIS IS A BLATANT LIE.This is one sample example of the false statements reported in the Toronto Sun, “Those attending the indoor rally at the Toronto Zionist Centre, near Lawrence Ave. and the Allen Expwy., were met by others opposing it outside. Like two weather fronts, they came together violently, despite a reported eight mounted police keeping them apart. At least two arrests were made, one police officer was injured and a squad car was vandalized.”
The truth is that the anti Israel gang came ready to fight with weapons and they fought with police. And the JDL kept the letter of the law as we fully cooperated with the police.
The second outrageous statement is, “Swap the word “Muslim” for “Jewish,” and the EDL’s actions sound instantly familiar to Jews everywhere. Throughout history, we’ve been demonized and made to feel like “the other.” We know this kind of hatred well, and condemn it unreservedly.” There is absolutely no similarity with Jewish history and Muslim history. At no time of history have Jews ever endorsed or carried out Terrorism against any government and at the same time advocated changing the law of the land to Jewish law. The Jews of Germany before the holocaust wanted to only be loyal Germans.
But the opposite is the case within a significant segment in the Islamic community. There is support for Hamas and Hezbollah within the Islamic Community and there are people ready to commit acts of Terror against our government and the public. The truth is, within the Islamic community is deep hatred for Israel. In Malmo Sweden, the Jews live in fear from the Muslim community. And this is no secret. The fact is that this is a very deadly game that is being played by our leadership. The Jewish People will not find strong allies for our future within the Islamic community. And the English Defence League is against militant Islam, Hamas and Hezbollah. They understand the threat and reality of today.
