5 Feet of Fury

Wait: Toronto has a Holocaust museum?

That line in the story of the Canadian Jewish Congress’s pathetic overreaction to some Irish comedian’s Holocaust “joke” struck me as weird, too:

It was put to him that talking to the head of the Canadian Jewish Congress might help defuse the situation. “A meeting was set up. The head of the Jewish congress wanted to meet me at the Holocaust museum in Toronto [?],” he says.

Turns out I was wrong.

Today I’ve had the following email exchange with a friend who naturally wishes to remain anonymous:

We’ll call my friend “X,” who starts off:

“There’s a Holocaust Museum here? First I’ve heard of it. But apparently there is. They’ve done an awfully good job of keeping it secret, don’t you think?”

Me:

I know! that’s why I stuck a little question mark in there. Huh. Learn somethin’ new every day.

“X” replies:

“Is it someone’s empty office, or the kitchenette, where they put up a few posters and have a copy of The Diary of Anne Frank on the table? The word afterthought comes to mind. Do they just keep it locked up for when Irish comedians (sorry – I’m sure that’s an oxymoron) show up to be chastised?”

Me:

yeah it’s like detention. (Ha ha!!! See what I did there?)
