I think we all agree, actually: laughter is necessary for troop morale, but so are gallons of ice cream and cheap local women.
And none of those is a particularly powerful weapon, except maybe in some unfilmed Russ Meyer screenplay.
If we rely too much on humor, and I think libertarians and conservatives do, we’re expending valuable energy while possibly (to quote the title of a book I really hate) “amusing ourselves to death.”
Amusingly — see what I did there? — more people have “died laughing” than have been murdered for working at abortion clinics.
There’s a joke in there somewhere!
