5 Feet of Fury

Message from wife of jailed Canadian gun rights activist

Donna Montague writes…

Dear Supporters:

Bruce and I had a very good summer.  We saw our eldest son get married, we visited some friends at the East Coast, Bruce’s parents had a restful visit with us for a couple weeks, and all our children are safely off to school.

We felt strong and recharged when Bruce read the notice to turn himself in yesterday (Wednesday) so that the Supreme Court of Canada would release their decision if they’d hear our appeal.

At 9:30 this morning I received an e-mail from Doug Christie (our lawyer) stating that the “SCC dismissed our appeal without costs.”

This means that there is still no precident in the fed court regarding the constitutionality of the firearms act.

Bruce is in jail in the Thunder Bay district jail. We expect him to be transfered to a larger jail within a week. I’m hoping for the farm as then I can get to visit him.  He comes up for a parole hearing in mid December — if we’ve calculated our dates the same.  If Bruce is successful he could be home for Christmas, if not he will remain there for another 6 months.

I just talked with Bruce and he hadn’t heard the decision.  He was quite disappointed.

I believe we will proceed with the courts to discuss the return /vs/ destruction of our property that was seized during the Sept 11 2004 raid on our home.

I think the crown will proceed with court action to seize our home.  So I’m currently preparing a package for Doug Christie.  Unfortunately I will be facing these proceedings alone with our lawyer Doug.   I so wish Bruce would be there too.

It was very hard to say goodbye and see Bruce walk away, praying he’d be home for Christmas.  It has been a very trying day and I feel crushed. Bruce must feel much worse.

Bruce really appreciates your letters.  So please consider sending a note to him.  It doesn’t have to be long, maybe just share your perspective on his situation, or share some of your summer’s adventures with him.

Doug made a comment to me that “We may have lost this battle but we haven’t lost the war.”

We must consider our options, and prepare for what’s to come.

Yours in Liberty,

Donna.
