writes Justin Webb of the Daily Mail:
McCain’s America, rooted in the Scottish-Irish folk inhabiting the mountain ranges of the Appalachians, still stands – at its core – for the values passed down the generations since the Mayflower landed.
McCain is about the Protestant work ethic and all that came with it: The Puritan Origins of the American Self, as one author called it, still hold sway in McCain’s America.
Lazy thinkers tell us that America is a nation of immigrants. Actually, it isn’t. It is a nation of settlers. Succeeding generations of American immigrants have been required, in essence, to sign up to the original dream.
It is about hard work and self-reliance and optimism and improvement. This is the America McCain represented. It is not Obama’s America.
