5 Feet of Fury

Mixed up atheists making friends wherever they go!

Paul Cooper:

We must show love to Hitchens and pray for him.  Would he want our prayers?  Well his attitude might be that of one of his followers who commented on his cancer announcement:

“Spit in the eye of the religious and get well!” – Chris Phillips

I hate to break it to Chris and Christopher, but getting well won’t be spitting in our eyes. It’ll give us reason to praise God. Why?  Because we are going to pray that you do get well. We’re going to pray that you recover and that through your rough journey ahead, the light of truth and faith will beam in your heart.

I understand people who hate, or claim to hate, the real God and the real Church, believe me. The Holocaust? Sex scandals? By definition, only a believer can be a “heretic.”

But guys? Could you at least hate the real thing and not the pretend one your superior minds have cooked up based on the preacher in Footloose?

Your “God” and “Christianity” are oftentimes no more real than that “old man in the sky” you insist on believing we pray to (and which I’d never heard of until you made him up.)

(PS: insert your own “Jim Beam” joke. I still need more coffee…)
