I took some flak for slagging the police in a speech earlier this year.
Now, after all the evidence I’ve presented, why do you persist in disagreeing with me?
The Toronto Police are nothing more than union bureaucrats with guns, or as Mark Steyn writes re: yesterday’s riots, “spectators in body armour”:
I may have to revise my old line about the British police being “the most monumentally useless in the developed world”. For the G20 summit, the Toronto coppers ordered up a ton of new body armor, weaponry, gas masks, etc – and then stood around in their state-of-the-art riot gear watching as a bunch of middle-class “anarchists” trashed the city. Streetcars were left abandoned, and even police cruisers were seized, vandalized and burned. But hey, it’s the taxpayers who pay for ’em, right? And I’m sure they’ll have replacements ready when Constable Plod needs to drive over to Tim Hortons for his mid-morning Boston Creme.

Note the peace-rioters broke a window at Remington’s, a gay bar on Yonge Street. Normally this sort of thing would be described as a “hate crime”. But then the Left is untroubled by consistency of conscience. (…)

The latest disturbing development in McGuinty’s Ontario is the same unit of the Ontario Provincial Police charged with minimizing violence by highway-blockading native protesters and anti-G8/G20 radicals, is now phoning up and showing up at the homes of law-abiding, middle-aged rural folks opposed to wind factories.
Selecting who they’ll visit based on their own research, they advise (warn?) them they must behave lawfully at any meetings they attend, or protests they plan, even when they aren’t planning any.
John Laforet, president of Wind Concerns Ontario, says at least four WCO members — interestingly, all women — have been approached so far…
