Muslims ‘criticized in their own community for saying too much’

LA Times:

“When we hear people say Muslim youth are becoming extreme, we’d go, ‘Hold up,’ ” said Omar Zarka, a UCLA engineering graduate student, turning to his left and right as if looking for extremists. “We don’t see any of it. Whatever, dude.”

The study and ongoing debate among Muslims has raised the question of whether homegrown terrorism is a real issue. It also highlights a rare divide in a community that typically operates in a top-down manner.

Question:

Why are you and so many other ethnic groups part of a “community” that “operates in a top-down manner”?

Why do Muslims and others constantly present themselves as members of a “community” obeying orders from a leader when they should be operating as autonomous individuals?

I don’t have a ****ing “community” and don’t want one. It just isn’t… normal. Communities are like unions: they’re for cowardly losers.

Why do we want to encourage communitarianism in North America, when everything great has been invented and promoted by individuals?
