I know you’re all getting pretty sick of me and my crazy stories about the olden days, but believe it or not, even as recently as 1980, you could say stuff like this:
“Quite obviously, the history of discrimination against black citizens in America cannot justify a grant of privileges to Eskimos or Indians.”
Unlike blacks, who were “dragged to this country in chains to be sold in slavery, the ‘Spanish-speaking’ subclass came voluntarily, frequently without invitation, and the Indians, the Eskimos and the Aleuts had an opportunity to exploit America’s resources before the ancestors of most American citizens arrived.”
and still get to be, not only a highly respectable member of society, but a justice on the US Supreme Court!
