Ambrogio’s husband, a young criminal lawyer named Peter Allen, had promised she could go to law school once he had saved enough money. But before they could build a life together tragedy hit: Allen died when his car was struck by another and then crashed into a tree. His death in June 2000 left Ambrogio to raise their two daughters — Ciara, 9, and Celia 4.
