‘From punk rocker to conservative’

LFP (!) profiles Mary Lou Ambrogio, who helped bring Ann Coulter to Canada:

Ambrogio’s husband, a young criminal lawyer named Peter Allen, had promised she could go to law school once he had saved enough money. But before they could build a life together tragedy hit: Allen died when his car was struck by another and then crashed into a tree. His death in June 2000 left Ambrogio to raise their two daughters — Ciara, 9, and Celia 4.

Between work, home and dabbling in politics, Ambrogio kept herself busy and numb to her loss. The protective routine was shattered three years ago.

Ambrogio was driving Celia when her daughter said: “I don’t remember what daddy’s voice sounded like.”

Ambrogio didn’t want her own voice to be forgotten and set out to make her mark, quitting her job in financial services and throwing herself at her political passions. Soon, she was a leading Conservative figure in all three London ridings…
