‘Journalist’ blames his plagiarism on, er, deadlines

Also “the warp speed of the net”!

The accuracy of my work and the quality of it, with my own commitment to doing things right, must not be lost because I failed to develop the best system for writing and meeting deadlines that was new to me after a quarter century of doing old, traditional journalism. Speed, the desire for a scoop, the natural inclination to want to break news on a developing story of national importance, made me shortcut my own rigorous standards.

Because, you know, up until a year or two ago, daily reporting was a leisurely, gentlemanly pursuit, somewhat akin to croquet…
