WFTL, Ft. Lauderdale Hosts Pressure Supermarket Chain. WFTL, Ft. Lauderdale talk hosts Jeff Katz and Joyce Kaufman used their respective talk shows to bring attention to a big PR blunder on the part of regional supermarket chain Publix – and got some satisfaction. The store’s 2010 calendar that is available free to patrons omits Pearl Harbor Day on December 7 and instead indicates the day is Muslim New Year.
Katz and Kaufman heard from numerous WWII veterans incensed by the omission and took to the airwaves to rally their audiences. Publix finally admitted its error and issued the following: “We regret that the day of remembrance, Pearl Harbor, is not noted and as a result of customer feedback, we will add Pearl Harbor to next year’s calendar.”
