Is ‘child suspended for drawing crucifix’ story a scam?

Seraphic Single says yes, because the picture making the rounds isn’t the actual picture:

When Christians really are being persecuted and, in some places, even killed, it really sucks to manufacture–and try to cash in on–a fake martyrdom.

Take the case of a child in Taunton, who was allegedly asked by a teacher about his drawing of the Crucifixon.

As you can see, the child did not write “Jesus” on the INRI placard. Concerned, the teacher suggested a psychological evaluation.

Of course, the media has a great excuse for wiping what could be the child’s name from the cross: normally you don’t name minors in a news story.

But in this news story, the question was the well-being of the child. If a child draws a picture of a person being crucified and puts his own name on the INRI placard, any reasonable adult might have cause to worry. It is my understanding that BY LAW in many places, teachers have to follow up on such things.
