Right wing folk music of the 60s. No, not a ‘Mighty Wind’/’Bob Roberts’ type parody

Thanks to the long time reader Mark for sending in this short public radio special about Janet Green, The Goldwaters and other now forgotten (and probably just as well) performers who made up the mid-to-late sixties “right wing folk music” movement ripple.

Considering the producer of this special is presumably liberal, he offers a factual and not insufferable account of the grassroots right in the days of Phyllis Schlafly and others who trying to unseat the Rockefellers and other “country club” Republicans.

I particularly liked the Goldwater’s song, “Won’t You Come Home, Bill Buckley,” which captures my particular “beef” with him: his habit of “palling around” with (other) establishment elites.

UPDATE:

you can find Janet Green mp3s here.
