5 Feet of Fury

Another ‘conservative’ male blogger turns out to be a wimp

So let me get this straight:

You’ve built an image of sorts as brave, politically incorrect truth-tellers.

One of you makes nasty remarks about a gay marriage proponent, i.e., someone devoted to destroying everything you hold dear.

You are bullied into apologizing.

You know that apologizing is just a corporate/PR scam, all part of the political correctness you claim to abhor; that you really DO think the gay guy is a jerk; that your enemies just want to humiliate you, and mock the noble notions of forgiveness you at least attempt to take seriously.

You apologize anyway.

And you get fired anyway.

Then you grovel, “Hey, I deserved it. That’s life. And I’m a Christian or something…”

I hate to sound like one of the people I so frequently mock but:

Did you ever really believe what you were saying?

“Fighting political correctness” was all fun and games until somebody lost their newspaper column and radio show?

Don’t get me wrong. I know all too well that you’re pretty typical of so-called “conservative men” in the blogosphere.

You bitch and joke about “political correctness” but deep down, you actually accept its tenents about “tolerance” and “diversity” and “equality;” your only beef with political correctness is its stridency and humorlessness, and occasionally, its fatal side effects, like Fort Hood. You don’t actually object to its goals. Which is why you always falter just when it matters most.

Now, when it inevitably explodes, this untenable internal contradiction usually doesn’t usually manifest quite so dramatically. More often than not, it comes out as the weenie “on the one hand, on the other hand” mealymouthed crap that passes for “conservative” blogging, and the refusal of poseurs to risk their jobs and reputations when it really matters.

Not to mention the stampede to distance yourselves from outspoken women like me.

So color me unmoved.
