5 Feet of Fury

Dennis Miller guest programs on TCM tonight

Those of us who listen to Dennis Miller’s radio show every day have been looking forward to this big event.

Miller joins Robert Osborne tonight to present a bunch of his favorite movies, among them, the underrated, understated Dodsworth (1936), a movie I’ve written about here before.

I’m glad I didn’t watch Dodsworth until I was middle aged myself, because had I tried to watch it as a teen or young adult I would’ve grown bored pretty fast with this story of “stupid old people.” Like … Colonel Blimp, this is a film for grownups. Some of it made me cringe, it was so “close to home.”

I wouldn’t have picked Suspicion, and Miller admits it isn’t one of Hitchcock’s best. My Hitchock favorites aren’t generally considered his “best,” either, though; I’d rather watch Rope or Shadow of a Doubt.
