5 Feet of Fury

It’s over because I say so (UPDATED)

UPDATE:

OK, there seems to be some confusion, and I take full responsibility for that. Either too much coffee or too little.

I don’t find either Steyn or Currie “nancy” or squishy or whathaveyou. Quite the opposite, of course.

What does frustrate me is that so many good and decent people are reacting to this ruling by parsing it to death and acting like it matters.

And I didn’t particularly feel like linking to those posts for various reasons. I thought it more important for people to read the one I did link to, originally.

I think Jay’s conclusions are terrific and his comments on Everybody’s Favorite Person made my day.

However, that doesn’t mean I don’t find it weird that someone (especially someone who lives in beautiful Victoria, BC!) would, I dunno, waste so much precious time reading a 100+ page document that should never have had to have been written in the first place.

We should never have acted as if the HRCs mattered, and shouldn’t start now. Which is what I thought I’d said but obviously not. Sorry.

(Original post:)

Mark Steyn cites Jay Currie’s fine post on The Guy Who Is Suing Us.

(Just to be clear: one of the things I’m being sued for writing is something Jay wrote, not me; but I’m the one being sued. Yes, my life is oh-so-wonderful…)

Anyhow: I stand by what I said earlier.

If a group of people can literally make crap up and get away with it, so can we.

The BIGGEST mistake we can make right now is to start accepting our enemies’ assumptions and premises, and arguing from there.

No: we have to move the goalposts, just like they did.

Actually, we need to BLOW UP THE GOALPOSTS, but I realize there are a lot of sucky people out there who aren’t willing to risk their lives, fortunes and sacred honor on that particular project.

Using the Warman/Lemire decision as some kind of awkwardly shaped sex toy to further one’s fantasies that we actually live in a world where the Law and Justice and Common Sense and “Close Readings” and The Government matter doesn’t interest me.

Do carry on, and I’m glad some of you are happy.

But I prefer, shall we say, the real thing: writing what I want when I want to on this blog, consequences be damned, and not fussing over whether not I’m “allowed” to or not, or whether Harper will get a majority, or if I’m going to “get in trouble wha wha wha boo hoo hoo!”

Look:

If they come for you, refuse to leave.

And if they fine you, refuse to pay.

Life is nowhere near as complicated as so many of you make it out to be.
