That’s what I’ve always said, and I’m sticking with it. These are not the geniuses of the universe.
So: District 9 is an allegory about apartheid made by some South African guy.
First, “allegory” is always the first refuge of the talentless and the juvenile.
Second, the lesson of the “allegory” is ALWAYS something obvious, but that the artist thinks he just discovered all by himself and now must share with the unwashed masses, once he makes it easy for the poor things to understand.
Third, and unique to District 9:
The beings forced to live in crappy townships camps are the invaders, not the natives.
So… District 9 is about the horrible things evil black natives did to those poor white Boer settlers for so many years oh wait nevermind…
