One Wave Designs: Hawaiian web site design (review)

If I had my way — not to mention unlimited funds and a blind husband — our whole house would be Hawaiiana and tiki crap.

I have no idea why, but I love that stuff: tacky hula dancer table lamps, Hawaiian shirts… Maybe a nice framed copy of Obama’s birth certificate in pride of place behind the tiki bar…

Because I’ve been blogging since 2000, I sometimes get asked to review other people’s sites, like the one for/by the Hawaii Web Design firm One Wave Designs.

They’ve just relaunched their company blog, so there isn’t a ton of content yet. But what is there shows they’re up on the lastest stuff: Twitter and Facebook and the latest Pew Reports about mobile interent use. And the pretty colours and pictures don’t hurt, either.

Have you ever noticed how many “web design companies” have really ugly home pages? The excuse is they’re so busy building sites for their clients, they don’t have time to update their own. One Wave Designs is an exception to that. Their site makes a sound first impression, and was obviously designed this year and not in 1999.

Their client portfolio is nice, too — especially if you like sushi… or are looking to snap up (or just drool over) some Hawaiian real estate.

As long as they keep the blog fresh, and don’t get too caught up in keyword density, One Wave Designs is definitely on the right track in every way, going beyond easy “eye candy” to emphasize SEO and other less glamorous stuff.

Great work — especially considering how hard it must be to stay at your desk and built websites all day when you live in a tropical paradise.
