5 Feet of Fury

Cuz you know you can trust Ted Bundy

When Ted Bundy spoke to Dobson, it was at the tail end of the great porn panic, when unlikely allies Jerry Falwell and Andrea Dworkin fought their highly public anti-porn campaign, and we had to watch Not a Love Story in college and start calling stuff we approved of “erotica” and stuff we didn’t “porn.”

Bundy was a publicity hound trying to squeeze some media mileage out of his last days.

(Note that this wikipedia entry, despite its heavy Canadian focus, neglects to mention the Wimmin’s Fire Brigade. Lefties, I hope that memory hole of yours is at least set up to compost…)

Because that campaign coincided with the “I was an abused woman” panic, it got a big boost from Linda Lovelace’s highly dubious “recovered memory” claims that she was coerced into performing in Deep Throat.

(And if any of you are thinking “global warming” right now, good for you!)

In his column, Rod Dreher mentions Bundy, plus some other nut from the 80s. And that’s it.

It’s pretty obvious that porn has distorted young men and women’s expectations about what women should look like naked, and how they should perform sexual acts.

However, even as a leftist, I never believed porn “killed women”. I can’t believe we’re still talking about this.

Jezuz, what year is it again? I think I hear “Hungry Like the Wolf” playing in the background…
