Booker Rising: adventures in cab hailing

May 4, 2009 By admin

Booker Rising writes:

This evening, I did some light grocery shopping. For those of you who are familiar with Chicago, I was walking from the Jewel on Roosevelt & Wabash, heading toward the Orange/Green/Red Lines train station to go home. On the southwest corner of Roosevelt & Wabash, I encountered a trio consisting of two Suge Knight-sized black men (both sporting cornrows with baggy long shorts, and one wearing a wifebeater tee) and 1 Jennifer Hudson-sized black woman, all in their late 20s or early 30s. They were trying to hail one of the cabs going east and going south. As soon as I saw them as I approached the corner to wait for the light to turn green to cross Roosevelt Road, I thought to myself, “These Negroes are not gonna get a cab.”
