5 Feet of Fury

‘I was fighting socialism when a lot of these guys in the [Prime Minister’s Office] were still in diapers’

I reviewed Gerry Nicholl’s fine book Loyal To The Core last week — highly recommended to would-be conservatives activists on both sides of the border.

He was recently interviewed by the Hill Times:

The fight I’m most proud of was our fight against election gag laws, denying Canadians the right to free expression. We ultimately lost that battle after 20 years, but we did put it up long enough so that technology makes the gag law irrelevant. …

That’s one of my biggest disappoints about Stephen [Harper]—he’s done nothing since coming to power to change it. Here’s the guy who led a court battle against it when he was our president and now he can actually do something about it, and he isn’t.

Yeah, I sometimes get discouraged. … I sometimes think this new generation coming up, all they care about is party and all that matters is supporting the party. No matterwhat the party does, it’s right. That’s not the way I grew up and that’s not the way I look at politics and I sometimes think, am I the only one who thinks that now?
