It’s allegedly based on some “ancient African proverb,” which means that
a) the proverb was made up by some white dude 20 years ago and
b) it completely contradicts the horrid reality on the ground in Africa — the last place from which we should be adopting “proverbs.”
Especially proverbs about “power” — this sculpture doesn’t illustrate the Big Man phenomenon terribly well, does it?
