Satire died in UK right around… ‘satire boom’

Peter Hitchens condemned the famous “satire boom” and its “dishonest mockery” of venerable shared British institutions and traditions in his book The Abolition of Britain , which gave me a start. I’m a lifelong fan of Python & Beyond the Fringe after all.

But is it really any coincidence that the advent of the “satire boom” seems to have ushered in an age when true satire is impossible.

We learn today that the UK’s Channel 4 “alternative Christmas” message will be delivered this year by… well, go read it for yourself. I just can’t be bothered writing this not-dead-enough idiot’s name.
