70 percent said there is “significant hostility” toward Muslims among the American public.
A 2007 survey of American Muslims by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life found that they are largely middle-class and have mostly mainstream views. One important divergence from the mainstream was among Muslim youth, who were much more likely than older Muslims to say suicide bombing in defense of Islam can be at least sometimes justified.
