5 Feet of Fury

On the plus side, it’s your chance to see Sean Penn get shot to death

Another day, another “I love my dead gay son” martyrdom movie.

I’m with the (late) Celluloid Closet dude (fine book, btw) — how’s about a flick where the gay character doesn’t die at the end?

Isn’t it weird that liberal straight filmmakers and audiences only seem to love homosexual characters if they meet some awful fate in the third act?

How is that not a sick, necrophiliac and downright adolescent sensibility?

You embrace/mock the “camp” of melodrama, in which the sinful female lead character must die to achieve final redemption; how is this different?

And how has decades of on-screen martyrdom influenced the real world behaviour of gay activists and their friends, who adopt the role of poor, helpless victim to fight their often dubious causes?

PS: You can tell just by the trailer that Penn will get an Oscar nod for this, and probably win.

PPS: “‘Christians’ are EVIL GUN CRAZED MURDERERS with bad haircuts!!! And we’ll dig up a tragic story from the 1970s to prove it if we have to!!!”
