Michael Coren: honest reservations about Palin

Maybe because he’s a Canadian Catholic, Coren didn’t automatically switch into “nothing to see here!” mode, the one making me “crazy pills” since last week.

He writes:

Teenage sex has nothing to do with love. If boys lie to girls, so does society. It tells them that their self esteem and public worth rest on their participation in sex. Extraordinary to think that a girl has dignity if she allows herself to be used by a boy who most of us wouldn’t trust to use our car.

Young people reach sexual maturity long before they reach emotional maturity. They can enjoy sex and conceive long before they can understand and appreciate the world’s realities.

So does all this reflect on Sarah Palin? We all make mistakes and this is far from being the worst failing in the world. Palin’s daughter intends to marry the father of her child and it may well be a good marriage. Yet it’s not the way it ought to be.
