5 Feet of Fury

Recent Human Rights Commission “communiqué reads like something the Chinese communist party might put out…”

My fellow being-sued-by-Richard-Warman-guy, Jonathan Kay, writes:

…except that the role of anti-Chinese “traitors” and “saboteurs” has been replaced by evil-doers (such as Maclean’s magazine’s Mark Steyn, and Ezra Levant of the Western Standard) who peddle “destructive, xenophobic opinions.”

Racism exists “in all of society’s institutions,” we are told in a typically phobic flourish. Of particular concern to the OHRC is Islamophobia, “a form of racism that includes stereotypes, bias or acts of hostility towards Muslims and the viewing of Muslims as a greater security threat on an institutional, systemic and societal level.” (I am quite curious about the use of the word “stereotype” here. One supposes that all sorts of Jewish, Buddhist, Ba’hai and Confuscian terrorist cells are getting busted up all the time — but the Islamophobic media never reports it.)

“There is more at work here than just a busybody bureaucracy attempting to expand its fiefdom. Scrape away the document’s pablum about human rights, and the cynical, obligatory nods to free speech, and you find a genuinely frightening manifesto written by people who have a thinly disguised contempt for press freedom and heterodox opinions.

“Why would anyone want to give these people more power than they already have? Come to think of it, why would we want to give them any power at all?”
