“She Demons” (1958): first Nazi-sploitation flick?

Yesterday I made the mistake of buying one of those cheapo compiltion DVD sets. I know it’s a waste of money — the discs inevitably turn out to be corrupt, and you’re down $14.95.

But I had to have She Demons (1958), (not to be confused with the later, unrelated She Demons of the Black Sun) which I’d never heard of before. “Nazi scientists transforming stranded beauty contestants into monsters”? Come on — try to pass that by.

So I watch it last night and as you had guessed, the disc crapped out right before the ending. Leaving me stuck here this morning trying to find a download on the web so I could find out how it ended.

I wondered: is this the first (warning: nudity/violence) Nazisploitation flick? You know, grade Z flicks that put the “camp” in “camp”? If so, that places the genre’s start date decades earlier than Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS (1974). However, Wiki cites something called The Devil’s General made in 1955, so I guess my big Jane Goodall movie history “discovery” is a dud.

Damn. Anyway, an entertaining 77-mins. if you ever get to see it for nothing. And more entertaining pseudo-science than An Inconvenient Truth, but just barely.

Or you could buy it here (scroll down to the bottom).

PLUS: an interview with the director.
