UK: blogger arrested for “stirring up racial hatred”?

“I am being arrested on suspicion of ‘Stirring up Racial Hatred by displaying written material’ contrary to sections 18(1) and 27(3) of the Public Order Act 1986.

“I will be writing more about it so please keep dropping by to read more about it.”

This guy’s writing isn’t my thing, and I have no idea who or what he’s talking about, but so what? If he’s defamed somebody, that’s one thing. But that’s not what the charge is.

And won’t this charge just give what I’m assuming is a pretty obscure weblog even more publicity? And, like, maybe “stir up” more “racial hatred”?

Remember those protesters who carried signs that read “Behead Those Who Insult Islam”? I don’t think “stirring up racial hatred” should be a crime, but if it has to be, shouldn’t it the law be applied equally? (She asked stupidly). (Oh wait, here’s one guy they charged. One out of how many people carrying those placards?)
