Here’s what makes his business different:
“The plain truth about PC repair is that technicians spend about 25% of their time (or less) doing actual work on a system, and the remainder waiting for it to blow up. When I have a system on my workbench, it often takes me five minutes to load a diagnostic utility, which then runs for twenty minutes on its own.
If I am working in my shop, I only charge for the time I’m actually sitting at the keyboard — not for the time that the automated task is running.
“If I’m on location, I am forced to charge for the time I’m sitting waiting for the diagnostic to run, which greatly inflates the final bill (by up to four or five times).
“Whenever possible, it is much cheaper for you to bring your machine into me for service as I won’t have to charge you for the time I spend waiting for an automated task to finish running on your system.
It’s not that I don’t like to make money, but I’m hoping I’ll make more of it when satisfied customers spread the word that I don’t pad my bills.”
Business is booming, so he and his wife have just opened a second location. Along with doing onsite computer repairs, they offer classes in “Developing a Web Presence for Your Business”, photography and more.
