Pissy post dissing Cosby get two kinds of comments:
* White and blacks who agree with Cosby and provide actual examples/info from real life
– Actually, Sheila, I’d have to say I’m with the Cos on all this. I guess if he’s casually reinforcing racial stereotypes, then the young black men on the block outside my apartment are, what, actively reinforcing them?
– I’m the only white person on my team here at a large NYC agency. And after discussing this very same thing with the rest of the bunch, we’re all in agreement: he’s right.
– Even tho his language is lame, the Cos is right: Black folks got some serious issues and its getting worse. Having taught in NYC after school programs, and as a graduate of NYC public shools, I’ve seen firsthand how education is valued. IT IS NOT. Posturing is valued. Veneer is valued and there’s hardlyn any parenting. I saw this in 1983 when I entered NYC public schools; and in 2003, the last time I taught. I cringe when I think about the future of black folks in this country.
– but in the meantime treating women with a little respect and not shooting each other may make day to day life a little more tolerable.
– Listen, as a brown person that got called a “sellout” for moving to a safer neighborhood when I was 12 and got called “White Girl” because I decided maybe giant hollowed out gold hoops and a baby weren’t for me at 16, I beg to differ.
Yes, there are TONS of race issues in this country that need to be addressed. Currently, my peeps are the Big, Brown, Illegal Menace so I know what I’m talking about. This does not excuse the purposeful, irresponsible, and self-defeating behaviors of many of my fellow Browns.
