Frank reminds me that he was the guy who made the generous gun offer. I’d forgotten it was a contest to encourage self-defense among Canadian women, and that it included a gun and everything — Stephanie in Vancouver was the lucky winner. He bought her a CZ SP-01.

He adds:

“Anyway, glad to see you’re going ahead with this. Remember you need to pass both your non-restricted and restricted tests, both written and practical. But you know that.

“Keep us all posted.”

“as an ex-ipsc competition shooter… what used to be called ‘combat pistol’ shooting, (before we bowed to the gods of political correctness and changed that to “practical pistol”) … i just wanna say, i hope you enjoy yourself.

“your average cop probably can’t hit a man sized target more than 15 feet away most of the time.  add in low-light conditions and an asshole-puckering surge of adrenalin and the kill zone is basically down to arms length.  it’s why there are so many collateral kills in urban gunfights.

“if you actually are concerned about self-defense… get a shotgun.

“specifically, a remington 12 gauge auto with a short deer barrel.  feed that puppy some number 1 buckshot.

as i told you previously… ‘it makes a hole so big, you can toss a cat through it.'”
