5 Feet of Fury

“RE: you 9/11 post” — from the inbox

* I loved it.

“On my office computer desktop, I have a picture of the explosion from the second plane going in. It’s taken from an unusual angle — I’ll attach a copy.  Usually I have too much crap open to see my desktop but one of the girls was at my desk when it was visible and she thought the pointy building was one here in Seattle, the Smith Tower, so she said something like ‘Oh, cool’ and was starting to ask, I think, how I photoshopped that explosion behind the Smith Tower.  I told her it was 9-11 and after that, it was just dead silence.

“Another one of the girls, more simpatico to my view (she’s originally from the Phillipines) saw the picture one day and said it was too hard to look at.  I said that’s why it’s up there, so no one forgets.

“But this is Seattle so the first girls’ evident dismay is the prevalent view.  Sigh.  Canada-on-the-Sound, that’s us.

“I am, of course, enjoying the new blog.  I think you may be even a touch more vitriolic than before, so congratulations!”

* “Thanks for posting that.  I had a similiar experience with an all-women’s forum on a BBS I was on at the time — the fires were still burning and even the American women were alternating between hiding under the covers and ‘good, we deserve it…we’re horrible bullies.’ Ugh.  After they told me I wasn’t a real woman for posting that the U.S. was going to recover and even come back stronger because that’s just the American Way, I never went back.

“Anyway, it’s good to know I wasn’t the only one repulsed by people in the Western Hemisphere celebrating online that day.  I found your blog via Mark Steyn, and I’ve added it to my daily reading!
