5 Feet of Fury

It had to happen sometime: American Girl releases a “1970s” doll

“For Julie Albright, life after her parents’ divorce holds as many ups and downs as the hilly streets of San Francisco. Julie misses her old bedroom, her pet rabbit, her best friend, Ivy—and most of all, having her whole family together…”

Accessories include a shoulder bag fashioned from an old pair of jeans (I made one too), a psychedelic lunch box (check), a tiny imitation Jiffy Pop popcorn, a lime green shag area rug shaped like a footprint, and something called a “record player”.

The choice of dogs is inaccurate, btw. Poodles were very popular, but there should also be a collie and a cock-a-poo, not the ones shown.

Very meta: Julie’s Christmas Gift set is… a doll. Specifically, one of those hair stylin’ giant Barbie heads.

My crappy life just flashed before my eyes.

Coming soon: a miniature copy of Go Ask Alice… Oh, and a powder blue cap sleeve t-shirt with two fried eggs over the boobs. And an itty bitty Frampton Comes Alive on 8-track.

Seeing Julie and her best friend gettin’ ready to go out and have fun, all I can think of is this.

The 70s were evil.

(Thanks Kathleen!)
